Professor Shreyes Melkote Receives 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kharagpur

Summary

Professor Shreyes N. Melkote has received the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kharagpur for his outstanding contributions to manufacturing research, education, and innovation. A Georgia Tech faculty member since 1995, he is recognized internationally for his work in precision manufacturing, industrial robotics, and data-driven cyber manufacturing.

We are proud to share that Professor Shreyes N. Melkote, interim school chair and Morris M. Bryan Jr. Professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has been honored with the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

The DAA is one of IIT Kharagpur’s highest honors, recognizing alumni for exceptional contributions and leadership across academia, research, industry, and public service. Professor Melkote, who earned his B.Tech. in Manufacturing Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1987, has built an internationally recognized career in precision manufacturing, industrial robotics, and data-driven cyber manufacturing.

In addition to his faculty role at Georgia Tech, he serves as executive director of the Novelis Innovation Hub and has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles. His numerous accolades include the ASME Milton C. Shaw Manufacturing Research Medal, the SME Gold Medal, and fellowship in ASME, SME, and CIRP.
