The Melkote Advanced Manufacturing Research Group is proud to share that our principal investigator, Dr. Shreyes Melkote, has been appointed Interim Chair of the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech. Dr. Melkote will begin this leadership role on May 15, 2025, following the departure of Dr. Devesh Ranjan, who has accepted the position of Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Melkote has been a dedicated member of the Georgia Tech community since 1995. As the Morris M. In addition to his leadership within our lab, Dr. Melkote serves as Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI) and Executive Director of the Novelis Innovation Hub, where he helps drive innovation and strengthen the global competitiveness of the manufacturing sector.

Dr. Melkote’s contributions to the field have been recognized through prestigious honors including the ASME Milton C. Shaw Manufacturing Research Medal, the SME Gold Medal, and election as a Fellow of ASME, SME, and CIRP. Most recently, he received Georgia Tech’s Outstanding Achievement in Research Engagement and Outreach Award in 2024.

Reflecting on his new role, Dr. Melkote stated:

“I am honored to serve the Woodruff School in an interim capacity. It is an opportunity to give back to the School and the Institute that have supported me in my professional growth during the past 30 years.”

We congratulate Dr. Melkote on this well-earned recognition and look forward to the continued impact of his leadership both within our lab and across the broader Georgia Tech community.
